- if your turret's sig resolution is larger that your target's sig radius you will be less penalized (up to max damage) for that difference if you use a TP.
- due to increased signature radius you have a better chance to hit, it DOES help out when a target comes in real close even when the target is "bigger" than your gun. So yes, it will help you a bit in regards to that but it's not a big difference.
- due to the target's bigger sig radius you'll get better quality hits (more excelent and wrecking shots)
The first one only applies if your target is "too small" for your turret, which isn't the case when killing BS rats. Second one does apply to you, when a target comes in real close, but the gain is not spectacular. Third one should apply in your case
But that's all unimportant if the target gets so close that you simply can't track it. I'm guessing (not knowing the exact trackingspeed of your setup with your skills) that you can't hit anything below 500m reliably, a TP will help you with that but only a little bit.
In short, for what you want to use it for a TP isn't going to help you enough to sacrifice a slot for.
--- edit since I messed up heh ---
While I'm not saying any of the above is wrong, a few bits of it are and the text as a whole is a little misleading. What it comes down to is:
An increase in the target's sig radius of 30% is entirely equivalent to a 30% increase in tracking.
This takes effect regardless of how far away you are, what your guns' signature resolution is, how big the target was, etc. So in that respect a TP II will give you just as much advantage as a Tracking Computer II with tracking script in. Plus it will help your drones hit more and better, plus any friends you have with you.
As for whether it will help at close range - not as much as a web will (reducing their speed by 90% is equivalent to a 900% tracking increase so it's a better option). Medium turrets should already have little problems hitting a battleship, and if the target is webbed you should be able to keep them at a reasonable distance - anything above 2km and I expect you shouldn't have problems hitting (plus NPC battleships won't try to come closer than this anyway).
Finally, the falloff only applies when the target is beyond optimal range. A target painter will have full effectiveness anywhere within its 60km optimal. |
